On the banks of the Lake Orta there is a little but fascinating town: Orta San Giulio, faced by the breathtaking Isle San Giulio. The legend says that the Island, which is 400m away from the bank, once was a cliff inhabited by snakes and monsters until in 390 San Giulio got there; he crossed the lake on his cape and, guided by his cane, the Saint founded a Church in which he was later buried. That Church became a very important religious point for all the region.
